Cemetery canvasser and indexer

Being a canvasser involves clearing and taking photos of headstones at the cemetery. Indexing can be done from home using your own computer.

Marriage Records transcriber and indexer

Transcribing information from microfilmed marriage records to a database for publishing on our website.

Bible Records indexer and transcriber

Make images of donated Bible record pages and create an index of names to publish on our website.

Surname and Locality File maintenance

Create and add folders of donated research materials to our existing files. Also create an index of our holdings to publish on our website.

Consultant

Requires research experience and use of computers in genealogy research. Consultants give one-on-one assistance to patrons in the library. Approximately 3 hours a week is requested, but other schedules can be worked out. Orientation and training are provided.

Adopt-A-State 

Assume responsibility for a section of books in the genealogy collection. Review them at least once a month to replace damaged labels, ensure they are in the correct order, etc. Training is provided.

Family History digitizer and Indexer

Digitizing requires some training and must be done at the library. Indexing can be done from home using your own computer. It entails reviewing scanned family histories, and recording surnames and respective page numbers.

Obituary Indexer

Can be done from home using your own computer. Record basic information from newspaper obituaries for posting online and updating paper files.

Research Committee Member

Involves doing local research (mostly obituary lookups, but can range beyond that) for people outside of this area who ask for assistance. May involve trips to St. Petersburg and Clearwater libraries.

 

 

One-on-One Help in special areas

Involves agreement to give one-on-one help in special areas of research. The areas can be specific geographic areas, translations, computer assistance, etc.

PGS Display Table Representative

Set up the PGS table display with handouts and promote the society and genealogy to interested persons. Minimum of four events a year, with others determined by volunteer time available.

Refreshment Coordinator

Coordinates provision of refreshments at monthly PGS meetings, and staffs the refreshment table.

Historian

Requires some experience with PGS. Involves recording events, writing annual summary of PGS activity and accomplishments, and taking/organizing photos taken by yourself or contributed by others.

Fund Raiser

Oversee purchase and sales of miscellaneous items to produce an income flow to PGS. Also includes oversight of used book sales.

Name Tag Manager

In coordination with the Membership Director, makes name tags for new members, and distributes and collects those name tags at monthly meetings. Also, serves the same function for seminar name tags.

Board of Directors (various positions) (annual elections with vacant positions filled by appointment as necessary)

Instructor (various topics)

Requires in-depth knowledge of subject area and ability to speak in front of groups.
