Email Addresses – Forwarders

The Pinellas Genealogy Society uses forwarders instead of actual email mailboxes. This reduces the learning curve for new Directors and at the same time, it protects their personal email addresses.

PGS Universal Email Address

We have a generic address Info@PinellasGenealogySociety.com that forwards incoming email to one person. They will either handle it, or forward it to someone within our organization. (It actually goes to our old Yahoo email address.)
It’s OK to publish this address anyplace!

Organizational

There are several organizational forwarders that are updated to whoever is in that position at the time. This allows PGS to publish the email addresses without having to keep track of where it was published or who is currently in the roles. These are obvious:

These are great when you are replying to someone and want to CC someone at PGS! It hints at why you’re including them, and doesn’t reveal their personal information.

DNA Forwarders

We have an active DNA group, and DNA@PinellasGenealogySociety.com currently goes to the two leaders of that group, and only to those two. Susan and Denise can also use these:

Personal

Notice these all have a period in the middle of the name.
(first-dot-last name @ the full PGS domain name)

These forwarders can be used when a member requests to contact someone. These addresses can be given out without giving up anyone’s personal email address. This often happens in the chat box in a Zoom event.

We have one forwarder that is established for our convenience: Admin@PinellasGenealogySociety.com.

There are two more that are generally used on the Internet: Postmaster@PinellasGenealogySociety.com and Webmaster@PinellasGenealogySociety.com

Updates: Add or Change/Edit

The forwarders are maintained by the PGS admins through cPanel. Currently, this can be done by Rick or Peter. Additions and edits are easy and take only a couple of minutes. It takes longer for the admin to log in and navigate than it takes to actually make the change.
